About the Company
Simbi is an ed-tech web platform used by teachers and K-12 students.
Motivating children to read more often is one of the key driving factors behind the platform.
Reward systems are essential in motivating young users on learning platforms.
Rewards also introduce users to different features on the Simbi platform, as each feature is connected to unique rewards.
Opportunity areas
We realized a single 'Badges' feature could form the basis of all new gamification and rewards on Simbi.

Overall Goals
How do we better reward readers for improving their reading habits?
Specific Goals
Design a scalable reward system that can expand in the future
Build user habits that lead to improvement in reading
Align reader improvement with business goals
Key Contributions
I implemented several features for Badges, including:
Motivating learners as they work towards a Badge
Progress bars are found across the Simbi app where there's opportunities to earn Badges.
Activities that lead to Badges are found throughout Simbi, highlighted with banners.
Visible progress is updated after the activity is complete.
Alerts when Badges are earned after a challenging activity
Learners see animated popups celebrating their achievement.
A place to track ongoing progress and set new goals
Rewards and progress are now trackable on a new Badge Explorer, accessible throughout the platform.
The Explorer also introduces users to new features
Badge Levels motivate learners to build on their skills.
Most badges can be levelled up. This gives readers increasingly difficult challenges to complete as they make progress.
Results
~60% learners tracked their badge progress during the post-launch evaluation period.
Learners gave positive feedback about using Badges soon after release.
